ASM2O Practical Exam


ASM2O Practical Exam – 1 hour

10% of final mark

The final stage of the Creative Process is “reflecting and evaluating”. For this exam, you will be reflecting on and evaluating your work in this class.


Write 3-5 sentences for each question. Copy and paste the questions into a new blog post called “Reflection Exam”. Include as much detail and specific information as possible for maximum marks.

Use the remaining time to finish up any loose ends or post anything that you forgot to post.


Reflection on course work (as final stage of creative process).

1. a) Which project did you enjoy the most this semester? (1 mark)

2. a) Which project did you struggle with the most? (1 mark)

3. Name a skill you learned in media arts this semester and how you could use it in

4. Choose one project that you didn’t do too well on. Write three things you could do to improve it. (3 marks)

5. Write about your experience working in a group.
    a) What role did you play? Were you a leader, listener, creative director, technical expert, props manager? Were you the one that was always present in class and doing work outside of class? Were you the one that had difficult contributing? Write at least three points about how you worked in your groups. If you did not work in a group, write about why you did not and three points about why you chose to work alone. (3 marks)

    b) What was positive about the experience (group or alone)? (2 marks)

    c) What was negative about the experience (group or alone)? (2 marks)
6. Reflect on your time management in this course.
    a) If you had to give yourself a mark out of "10", what would that mark be, if 10/10 was using each minute of each class to the fullest and not wasting time? (2 marks)
    b) What strategies will you employ in the future to maximize your efficiency in getting assignments completed on time? (3 marks)

Tuesday, June 14 - CULMINATING ACTIVITY

This culminating assignment is an opportunity for you to showcase the skills you have acquired during this course. You will have enough choice in this project that you can showcase your specific strengths.  Remember to challenge yourself, always elaborate on your answers and give fullest efforts to your work. This will be worth 20% of your final mark, so it will make or break you.  :)

DUE TUESDAY, JUNE 21 - 6 CLASSES

OPTION #1
Your task: Invent a breakfast cereal based on a theme (zombies, animals, tv show, etc). You will need to create an identity for this new product by creating a product logo, slogan and photographic advertisement for a billboard.

Step #1: Brainstorm cereal ideas, record 5-10 ideas on a page that you will submit.

Step #2: Choose an idea from Step #1 and elaborate about the new product by answering the following questions:
a.    What does the cereal look like?
b.    What does it taste like?
c.    Who is your target audience for this product?
d.    How expensive is this product?
e.    What makes it different or appealing?

Step #3: Brainstorm 3 new names for this product.  Brainstorm 3 slogans for your new product. Keep a record of this on your planning pages.

Step #4: Using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, create a logo for your new product.  Remember to keep your logo simple, informative and limited to 3 colours.




Step #5: Use Adobe Photoshop to create the front of the cereal box, showing the cereal in a bowl and using the logo and slogan you created.






Step #6: Hand-in all parts of the project, see checklist…

OPTION #2
Your task: You are a music producer introducing a new musical act to the world. Create a new musical act (could be a solo artist or a group) You will need to create an identity for this new act by creating a logo, new musician’s/band’s name, new song single name, a and a photographic CD design.

Step #1: Brainstorm music identities for groups, bands or solo artists, record 5-10 ideas on a page that you will submit.

Step #2: Choose an idea from Step #1 and elaborate about the new musician(s) by answering the following questions:
a.    What kind of music do they play?
b.    What are some interesting facts about the musician(s)?
c.    Who is your target audience for this musician?
d.    What do they look like?
e.    How is this band/musician different/more awesome than any other musical act out there?

Step #3: Brainstorm 3 new names for their single.  Keep a record of this on your planning pages.

Step #4: Using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, create a logo for the musician’s name.  Remember to keep your logo simple, informative and limited to 3 colours.



























Step #5: Using a point and shoot camera or a DSLR camera take some photographic images of your musician(s) to use on your CD cover.

Step #6: Using your photographs, create some album art on Adobe Photoshop. Dimensions should be: 5” x 5” for both the front and back of the CD. This will be the world’s first view of the new musician(s) so make sure their identity is clear, the imagery is interesting and eye-catching. The back of the album will list the songs and credit the music producer. See example below:

OPTION #3
Your task: You are a video game designer introducing a new video game to the world. You will need to create an identity for this new game by creating a name for the game, a logo, a slogan, a digital still of game play.

Step #1: Brainstorm concepts for a new video game. Record 5-10 ideas on a page that you will submit.

Step #2: Choose an idea from Step #1 and elaborate about the new game by answering the following questions:
a.    Give a summary of the game.
b.    Is the game on the computer or a gaming system? On old school Nintendo etc..
c.    Who is your target audience for this product?
d.    How expensive is this product?
e.    How is it different/more awesome than any other game?

Step #3: Brainstorm 3 new names for this game.  Brainstorm 3 slogans for your new game. Keep a record of this on your planning pages.

Step #4: Using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, create a logo for your new game.  Remember to keep your logo simple, informative and limited to 3 colours.



Step #5: Using Adobe Photoshop create a digital still image from the game. You can use photographic images from a point and shoot camera or a DSLR camera take some photographic images or find images on the internet (not copyrighted images) and create your surreal/fantasy game world from there. This digital still image might include a character, some action shots, background imagery, avatar creation page, etc. Dimensions should be 5” x 7” landscape style – the same shape it might be on a t.v. screen.
